South Seas Island Resort Wedding

We LOVED being a part of this amazing Captiva Island wedding! The night of Caroline and Drew's wedding was all rain. There were still a lot of nice island pictures, but not the destination sunset wedding they had dreamed of. So, during another trip to Captiva the couple tossed on their wedding attire and headed back out to Sunset Beach at South Seas to catch the sunset. This time we had an amazing night and got a ton of great sunset shots at the beach. Here is one of the last images we got as the sun we pretty much gone and we were wrapping up an amazing beach sitting.

We love trying to incorporate vibrant colors into our work. Here are a few recent pictures that really said color!!!

The T-dock at South Seas Resort is a neat place to capture the amazing colors of Captiva Island. This was a mid day wedding, however the colors on Captiva at Sunset make for some amazing wedding photographs too!

La Playa in Naples, Florida boasts some pretty cool hotel rooms. I loved using the walls in the grooms room just before his beach wedding ceremony to capture this fun image.

Engagement sittings are a fun way to use the colors of any location! This couple met up for pictures in downtown Fort Myers where we were able to use the orange color of this wall to do a group of fun photographs.

Tiffany was so excited to be a part of this unique Captiva Island Wedding! Sunset Beach at South Seas is a great backdrop for weddings and the trolly ride out to the remote location is an experience for wedding guests. This couple added a little extra old Florida flair to their arrival though. They had this adorable antique car for their personal transportation to and from Sunset Beach and to get around South Seas and Captiva. It made for a ton of really fun pictures! Breaking Tradition

The first dance, the bouquet toss, the cutting of the cake... just having a wedding cake, there are so many traditions. Most of the couples that I work with plan on breaking a few traditions, some make it their plan to break them all! One thing I am finding more and more, even at the most formal weddings, is leaving out the traditional wedding veil...

a very elegant look and I'm finding that my beach weddings are appreciating not fighting a veil in the breeze!

Heather and I both love to talk photo. So, when we stopped in Le Camera in Princeton this week, we were beyond thrilled to bend the ear of their photo experts! I think we must have spent an hour in there playing with their fun antique collection and also checking out the latest canon equipment. I have a huge wish list (any avid photographer knows, your camera bag is never quite full!). We did each get our hands on our own macro lens. I posted a few pix that I got with mine. Heather, have you had yours out yet!? I can't wait to see what you got!!!

I was beyond thrilled when my sister got engaged. Her man is a great guy and we all love him. So it was the best news ever. The only problem.... she HATES having her picture taken! I have been photographing weddings and engagement portraits for 10 years, I have a ton of great ideas & funky locations. This was going to be the engagement shoot of the decade! But so far, no. She doesn't want to fly to Paris for her shoot. Not even the Vegas strip. Mind you, I'm known for thinking big and she likes simple. So, simple it was. She came to visit me a few weeks ago and I took the opportunity (and the 5 minutes she gave me!) to take these fun pix at my house. It's just them against my kitchen wall! But for now, this will have to do :( I'm still going to try to talk them into something a little more exciting! In the meantime if there is anyone out there that would like to be my sister for a day! Let me know. I would love to do a totally off the wall, like fly somewhere crazy for a weekend, type shoot! And, this time of year, meeting in Miami doesn't sound like a bad idea!

Something Different

My photography has been described in so many different ways, but one word that I never hear is "traditional". So when it comes time to do pre-bridal portraits I always try to get my brides to think "non-traditional". Why not add something to the shoot that is a little off the wall. A really unusual location or an accent that is completely different, like red shoes. Here are a few pictures that Heather and I got of Sherry this past week for her pre-bridal sitting. Sherry's red shoes were a fun accent to this winter shoot!

Toms River Wedding Expo

Heather and I are both pretty laid back, so when it comes to meeting couples for the first time, we like to meet in a location that is equally as relaxed. We love our friends over at Chez Alice, (that's our favorite cozy nook) and a meeting there gives me an excuse to indulge in their yummy pastries!

This weekend we ventured away from our cozy cafe and our casual setting to display our photography at the wedding expo in Toms River and I'm so glad we did. We met so many really cool couples planning weddings for all over New Jersey. We also met several great wedding professionals. Ken from Narcissus Florals had some amazing arrangements (love his work!) and if you are looking for something totally unique, check out Favourtique. They do completely custom favors. Their designs were a really cool mix of shabby chic and funky trendy. I think Heather and I spent more time admiring their unique favors than we did at our own table!

We both had a lot of fun at the event. I think we might just do it again!

PPA Photographers Convention

I just returned from a fun trip to the PPA annual photography convention. This year I took our assistant photographer, Emily, and headed out to Phoenix to submerse myself in photo. There had to have been 10,000 photographers there. I think we pretty much took over the city! We found some really great new photography products while we were there. We found the most unique album to add to our line up, so be sure and check back for pictures of this new addition. And to Heather, we missed you! Next time we aren't letting you miss out!

The Before Pix

I occasionally have a client who will tell me they don't want to have pictures of themselves "getting ready", so they suggest that we don't do pictures before the ceremony. As I always say, I am super flexible and I will do whatever my client wants BUT, I always have suggestions!

The before ceremony pictures of the girls getting ready is a nice way to begin the documentation of the day, but there is so much more to the before pictures than just getting into dresses. This is the point where I am going to capture many of the details: the dress hanging, shoes, jewelry etc. I am also using this time to capture candid moments of family and friends as well as the bride. Lastly, I find this is really the best time to create portraits of the bride alone. Hair and make-up are perfect, there aren't as many people around us, it's by far the best time to capture those elegant images.

I have to admit, I love shooting the before pictures. There is so much emotion and always so many fun moments. I love being the fly on the wall and just waiting for beautiful moments to present themselves. I'm smiling just thinking about it!

Signature Cocktail

Earlier this evening I was enjoying a glass of eggnog with my husband when the topic of the signature cocktail came up. He didn't realize that this was such a popular wedding trend. Now, I'm working at most weddings, so I'm not exactly partaking in this tasty wedding tradition, BUT I have seen and photographed some very unique and often beautiful concoctions. I've included a photograph from Erin and Aaron's wedding where their bartender was serving a special martini to their guests.

If you are still trying to come up with the perfect cocktail to serve at your wedding, try The Webtender out. It's fun. You can put in the items that you have and they will give you a list of drinks that you can make with what you have in the house.

Matthew and Parker are a second generation of Impressions clients. I photographed their parents wedding in 2002 and have enjoyed photographing the boys over the past 3 years. Colors of 2008

Anyone who spends more than 2 minutes with me knows, I love anything and everything wedding. Magazines, books, blogs, you name it and I'm there! One thing I love the most in these publications is the wedding color pallets. From Polka Dot Bride to Weddings Unveiled, they all have those wonderful color inspirations.

I finally sat down to read the fall winter issue of Ines Del Mar Weddings this morning. And of course the pages that really had my attention were the colorful ideas. As I was looking through the magazine I got to thinking about some of the unique color pallets that I have seen over the past few months. I am so fortunate to get to see so many creative ideas first hand. I've gathered a few of those images. Here are just a few of the color pallets of 2008.
